To improve education through technology in areas where access is limited.
To provide intensive, hands-on training programmes that inspire young people, develop their confidence in ICT and enable them to find fulfilling employment and enhance the quality of their lives.
In partnership with Utelize, this new Solar Community Hub in Xitlhelani, South Africa will provide 11 workstations, 10 dedicated student workstations plus one for the teacher and members of the community will be given digital training through the International Computer Driving License (ICDL).
You might take access to computers, the internet and technology in general for granted – but imagine if you were growing up in a town or community where such access was scarce or non-existent.
That’s where Solar Learning Labs come in. Built from converted shipping containers, these computer labs are solar-powered, which means they are self-sufficient and can be placed just about anywhere in the world.
For this project, our in-country partner will be the Amandla Foundation, which awards scholarships and moving allowances to children undergoing social vulnerability in the North Eastern South Africa, specifically in Xitlhelani and Rhulani, Limpopo, the province with the highest poverty rate.
Since 2014, the Amandla Foundation have worked with families, schools, chiefdom leaders and communities creating a strong and long-lasting relationship.
Their mission is to break the social division through the quality of education and through their work, they identified that bridging the digital divide is key to achieving this mission.
